Cement/Putty and Whiting
If your preferred method of construction is the Lead Came, then you should cement or putty the window afterwards. If not, the glass pieces in the window will rattle in the lead channel cames. To absorb the oils and to clean the panel, spread the whiting on and then scrub off.
Copper Foil
Fredrick Stained Glass stocks Black Back and Regular (Clear) Back copper foil. Each is packaged in 36 yard rolls and vary in widths to accommodate your needs: 3/16″, 7/32″, 1/4″, 5/16″.
Lead Came Strips

Lead Channels
We stock 3/16″ “H” Channel and 7/32″ “H” Channel. We have some miscellaneous assorted sizes as well.
Patinas
Define and enhance your finished stained glass window or lamp by changing the silver color of the solder to a dark antique color. Another option is having the solder turned to a bright copper color. While wearing rubber gloves, simply rub on and wash off.
Solder
60/40 Solder. What do the numbers mean? The first number 60% represents the amount of tin. The 2nd number 40% represents lead.
For copper foil soldering, this mixture assures you of a smoother convex bead. I use it for all techniques; foil and lead channel. The ecutectic point for 60/40 is 374 degrees.
Solder Flux
Solder Flux is a must, without it, soldering is impossible. Solder Flux is a water soluable solution that prepares the surface for soldering by removing the oxidation from the base metal, e.g. copper coil, lead channel or zinc.
Zinc Outside Edging
To add support and strength to your panels, a zinc edging channel should be soldered to the perimeter.
We stock: 1/8″, 3/16″, 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″ and 3/4″. They are available in 6 foot lengths. If your project is a circle, I have a Zinc Bender that will round the Zinc to your diameter.
